Casa Erica's Story: A Neverending Love

Casa Erica: a timeless Strombolian retreat

Casa Erica is an ancient Strombolian house, rich in history and authenticity. My family bought its ruins in 1977 and carefully restored it, respecting the traditional Aeolian forms and styles.

The magic of Stromboli in the past

Back then, Stromboli was even more magical than today. There was no electricity, and in the evenings, we would gather in the Piazza, watching the sky light up behind the volcano with the red explosions of Iddu ("Iddu" means "Him," referring to the volcano).

The silence was so profound that we could sometimes hear even the smallest rumbles. Even today, you can still listen to the deep breaths of the volcano, especially when the weather takes on an unusual character.

Our family preserved Casa Erica in its most authentic form: we never had a phone, we never had a TV and we never had a water heater, until 2014, when I began renting the house.

Our vision has always been about taking a real break from everyday life, a retreat where you can disconnect and embrace simplicity.

Imagine this:

  • Walking barefoot on the cool terracotta floors;
  • A refreshing cold shower in the garden, rather than a hot one indoors;
  • Sea-kissed hair that never fully dries, a reminder that you’re far from the stress of the city.

Renovations that preserve tradition

Between 2014 and 2017, Casa Erica underwent further renovations:

  • The third bedroom, known as the Mezzanine Room, now boasts beautiful wooden beams in the true Strombolian style.
  • All roofs have been restored and waterproofed, ensuring both comfort and authenticity.

Casa Erica is more than a holiday home, it's an experience, a journey back to the essence of Stromboli.
