The story of Casa Erica’s old bathroom: a love-hate relationship

For years, the old bathroom of Casa Erica was my personal nightmare. Whenever I had a bad dream, it was either about falling from a skyscraper or about the horrifying color of those tiles.

I’ve often wondered: were my parents drunk when they chose that deep burgundy color? They’ve always strongly denied it, but I still have my doubts!

For 35 years, my parents have sworn that there weren’t many design choices in the Aeolian Islands in the '70s, and honestly, I believe them.

The bathroom itself was already quite small, but the dark colors made it feel even tinier. Despite its questionable aesthetics, it actually had everything you needed, and the masonry shower was even larger than a standard one.

Despite all the swear words I dedicated to it, I can’t help but feel a little nostalgic. The new bathroom is undoubtedly a dream, but I will always hold the old one dear to my heart, a relic of another time, a piece of the past that, for better or worse, will never come back.
